Happy Birthday this Summer

My Happy Mail Card Club got a fun, summery birthday card last month!  I had just purchased the retired Label Love set with punch from my Stampin Up’ demonstrator and was browsing Pinterest for ideas.  I found Lisa Young’s card and knew I wanted to replicate it.  I used a 6″ by 6″ paper pad from one of my past Simon Says Stamp kits.  I did not have any regular buttons that matched, so I die cut the button out of matching paper.  Stamping, Cuttlebug embossing, die cuts, twine, embellishments – this card has it all going on!

I liked this one so much, I made extras for myself to send out.  Hope your July is as bright and summery as this card!

2015 Second Quarter Stash Report

Here we are at the halfway point of the year already!  June went by in the blink of an eye for me because I spent most of it traveling.  Halfway through the year and halfway through the summer (for school).  This quarter I had a lot of crafting adventures – a friend’s bridal shower, Maryland Sheep and Wool (MDSW) Festival, Great Lakes Fiber Festival, handling alpaca at the local farm, seeing the Mount Vernon sheep in person, AND the ultimate – my first visit to WEBS, the biggest yarn shop in the United States!  I was so happy to squish all the yarns in person.  I also went in with a plan in mind – find DK yarn for the new Paula Emons-Fuessle pattern.  So I did just that, finding a Rowan DK closeout for $20.  Just $20 in yarn from WEBS?!  I know!  It’s like the first time I went to MDSW…a lot of self-restraint.  I still have a lot of work to do the rest of the year to stay ahead!  Here is the official stash report.

Hope your first half of 2015 was as wonderful as mine!

Ballerina Card

I have definitely been on a coloring kick with my cards lately!  I do it all in stages – usually coloring on a holiday break, fussy cutting images at a crop, and then putting the images on a card at home when it is time for to mail cards to my group.  This ballerina image was a printout from the Copic Markers for Cardmakers online class.  I actually used my Night of Navy Blendabilities from Stampin Up’ to color this image – a set I kept even after they discontinued the line. I am really happy with how the skin turned out, but I am still working on the perfect coloring for hair.  The saying stamp is from a Close to my Heart set.  The embossed banner just gives it an extra pop.

Hope your day is brightened a little bit!

Wall of Shawls

One of my new year’s resolution for 2015 was to create the “wall of shawls” in my bedroom.  The goal was to get all of my handknit shawls and scarves out of a plastic bin and on display so I could see them in all their glory and hopefully wear them more often too.  First, we had to paint the bedroom (a nice shade of burple – right in between blue and purple).  Then I had to decide how I wanted to hang the shawls.  We thought about a big piece of lattice.  I searched high and low on Pinterest and only found displays of a couple shawls at a time.  I thought about a lot of different options from Amazon.  I finally stumbled on a coffee mug wall rack.  Great price and long pegs for my shawls to fit on.  Perfect.  Two of these hold up my wall of shawls.  I have already ordered a third one for the second bedroom (a mini wall of shawls for guests to admire).  I unveiled the wall of shawls to my friends on Wednesday night when they were over for knit night.  There should almost be music playing softly in the background.  It is a stunning display and I love it!

The Dogs Say Hi Cards

When I sat down to make the last group of Happy Mail cards, I decided to make another set to use up more sticker alphabet letters.  I also wanted to use a Cuttlebug embossing folder that had been sitting in the stash and the new(ish) Stampin’ Up embossed flower paper.  I also embossed the flap of the envelope, a trick I learned from my other card club members.  A pretty simple card, but fun!  When I went to photograph it outside, the dogs decided they also wanted to say “hi.”

Now you know why I am always distracted when I am crafting at home!  Love these two!

Happy Birthday Circles and Banners

For my Happy Mail Card Club, I saw this card by Laura Vegas and immediately knew I wanted to recreate the style.  I needed to use more of my alphabet stickers and this type of card was the perfect way to do it.  This card has several old supplies being used – Cuttlebug die, scrap paper from a card kit, and kraft paper.  The banners are my favorite part!

Hope you are enjoying the month of May.  I am ready for summer break – just a few short days away!
